At our East Kilbride establishment we have the pleasure of sharing our space with the wonderful Katie Jackson, Fit Studio resident yoga instructor.  Yoga is a great way to relax, re-energise and keep fit both mentally AND physically.

Yoga is quickly becoming one of the most popular, if not the most popular, workout regime among those who are looking to gain flexibility, strength and even lose weight.  Yoga is great for reducing stress and allowing for greater relaxation.  During your practice, you will quickly learn that it is so much more than just a way to work out and keep in shape.  Yoga is a philosophy, a passion and a way of life for many of those who have welcomed it into their lives and it won’t be long till you will too!

From the Sanskrit word meaning ‘to control’ or ‘to unite’, the origins of yoga can be found in the ancient Golden Age of India.   Yoga is a major part of the Hindu religion as it embodies their natural state of being and spiritual enlightenment.  Belonging to one of the six Hindu schools of philosophy, yoga is used in conjunction with meditation or can be a form of meditation in itself and, in Buddhism, plays a major part in meditation practices.

In the modern Western world yoga is finding its way to being important and establishing a much needed place in the stressful, busy lives we have created and can be worked into virtually any lifestyle or schedule with great positivity. 

Although it won’t cure every ailment, it can do so much for the human body increasing health and body awareness allowing participants a better control of all aspect of their lives.
